High School Internship Program

Our high school field interns are a crucial part of our field crew during the summer. We love having the opportunity to help students learn about where their food comes from and rely on help from our interns to harvest all our vegetables during peak season.

About the Internship

This unpaid volunteer internship is a great chance for you to get hands-on experience working on a busy farm while accumulating community service hours. The internship is open to high school students (ages 14 to 18). Our farm is small, which means we use every bit of space to grow veggies, and most of the work is done by hand. It’s a great way to learn about farming while getting a feel for what it’s like to work on a real farm.

As an intern, you’ll get hands-on experience in all kinds of farm work, like planting, harvesting, and packing produce. While these sessions are running, we’re harvesting produce for our farmers market, farm stand, food pantry donations, and our CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) sharers. We’re a small farm, but we grow a lot of vegetables. Interns help us harvest hundreds of pounds of cucumbers, tomatoes, and more each week.

We also want to make sure you leave with a well-rounded understanding of our food system. Each day during break we host educational discussions about topics such as organic farming, sustainability, farm finances, and more. You can even guide some of the topics based on your interests!

Expectations

Farming requires focus, care, and physical effort. You need to be able to work efficiently, follow instructions carefully, and stay on task. It’s also physically demanding, so you need to be comfortable lifting, bending, kneeling, and working outside in all kinds of weather, from hot to cold and dry to wet.

We want to help you develop good work habits, including being punctual and reliable. You will be expected to communicate directly with our Farm Manager, Greg Maslowe, or someone on the farm team. We won’t be able to respond to messages from parents unless it’s an emergency. At the end of your internship, we’ll sit down with you to review how things went. Please note that your position can be ended at any time by the farm manager if needed.

Internship Dates & Schedule

The internship lasts 4 weeks, working on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8am-12pm. You’ll need to be available for the entire 4-week period. Here are the two terms you can choose from in 2025:

  • Term 1: July 8 – July 31

  • Term 2: August 5 – August 28

Make sure you can commit to the full term before applying. If you have a scheduling conflict, please choose another term.

Each day will include a break, and we’ll stop at noon for lunch. You’re welcome to join us for lunch if you’d like, but it’s not required. Just keep in mind that when you apply, you’re committing to the full schedule for the whole term.
