Gardening in a Small Space on a Budget

Part of NewtonEats, a week of programs (August 2228, 2021) focused on raising awareness about food insecurity in Newton and the US.

Monday, August 23

67 pm

It is a common misconception that you need a lot of space and a rural setting to create a garden. With a small community garden plot, a small space in your yard, or even in containers, you can grow enough food to supplement a healthy diet. In this class, taught by gardening expert, volunteer, and Farm supporter Brian Rogan, we learned about how to plan, start, and maintain your garden and pick the right seeds and seedlings to give the best yield possible.
Brian is a former science teacher with over thirty years in the classroom. He has worked at the Museum of Science and for NASA and NOAA. He lives in the village of Thompsonville and tends to a very large garden which often produces quite a few looks of astonishment that you could grow that kind of garden in the city.
